Description

Vintage Pin Up Girl Print

This is a reproduction of a well-known pin-up illustration titled "Cleopatra", created by the American commercial artist Rolf Armstrong.

Artwork Details

Artist: Rolf Armstrong (1889-1960), often called the "father of the American pin-up", was a commercial artist famous for his glamorous depictions of women, often used for magazine covers and calendars.

Title: Cleopatra.

Medium & Creation: The original artwork was an oil painting created around 1924. It was reportedly life-size, a notable exception to the smaller pastels Armstrong typically produced.

Purpose: The painting was specifically created for the calendar industry and did not appear as a magazine cover.

Description: The image portrays a seductive, blonde version of the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, reclining in a luxurious setting with draped fabrics and a pet leopard. In the background, the silhouettes of the Pyramids of Giza are visible under a starry night sky.

This image is a classic example of Art Deco pin-up art, and is also known by the alternative title "Beauty and the Beast Pin Up".
