Description

NORMAN ANDERSEN (1894 - 1968)
A superb Illinois painter and etcher, Norman Andersen studied art techniques in Chicago and then worked, exhibited and resided there for most of his career. Norman Andersen was most active from 1936 to 1942. During these years he was regularly commissioned by the Chicago Division of the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.). Founded by President Roosevelt in 1935, the W.P.A. actively assisted American artists during the years of the Great Depression. In all probability, "Moorland Tempest" was created during this time.
