Fiddletown Wineries - Amador County
American Viticultural Area

This print by artist Kerne Erickson depicts the Fiddletown AVA located in Amador County. The region was first settled in 1849, during the California Gold Rush. Settlers, mostly Italian immigrants, stayed in the area and eventually planted grape vines which became abundant by the end of the nineteenth century. Most of the vineyards in the Fiddletown AVA are located in the south and west portion of the region at elevations between 1,500 and 2,500 feet. About 20% of the wine produced in Amador County comes from the Fiddletown AVA. Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Barbera and Grenache are a few of this regions varieties that stand out. Decomposed granite along with volcanic loam soils are commonly found in this region and at the higher elevations in the area. Wineries are: Distant Cellars Winery, Morse Wines & II Gioiello Winery, Le Mulet Rouge Vineyard & Winery, Fiddletown Vineyards, Legendre Cellars, Sobon Estate, Renwood Winery, Terre Rouge & Easton Wines, Bella Piazza Winery, Helwig Vineyards & Winery, Shenandoah Vineyards, Andis Wines, Borjon Winery, Terra d'Oro , Karmere Vineyards & Winery, Charles Spinetta Winery, Bray Vineyards, Jeff Rundquist Wines and Driven Cellars.
