Hugo D'Alesi had Romanian ancestry and was one of the first painters of his century to dedicate himself to poster design - particularly travel posters. He mainly worked for the French railway companies and founded his own lithography studio, which unfortunately led him into financial difficulties. He was also commissioned to paint educational images that were exhibited at the Paris world's fair in 1900.
