Joe Bridge (1886-1967)
Joe Bridge is the nickname of Jean Barrez, illustrator, poster and French designer, born in New York in the United States in 1886. He began his career on the boards of Parisian music halls in 1904, in humorous numbers. Meanwhile, he also designed posters and collaborating in the satirical press of the time. Joe was also fencing champion and we know that he had fought a duel in 1912, slightly injuring his opponent, following a controversy in a magazine of weapons. In 1922, Joe Bridge will base its advertising workshop at 224 rue de Rivoli in Paris. We know him another workshop in Paris, at 3, Cité Bergère (probable move). He was a friend of Francisque Poulbot, Jean-Louis Forain, Adolphe Willette, Maurice Neumont Louis Morin and Lucien Boyer. Some of them were on the committee of the Republic of Montmartre which is the story.
