Santa Lucia Highlands Wineries - Boekenoogen Winery

Boekenoogen Vineyards is one of a number of wineries that produce delicious wines in this region. Although this AVA is primarily known for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Viognier, there are other varieties also being grown. The Santa Lucia Highlands AVA was registered in 1990 and is a sub AVA in the much larger Central Coast AVA. It currently has over 2,200 planted acres of wine grapes, most of which are planted in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Santa Lucia Highlands is also home to one of the vineyards that Wine Enthusiast Magazine named a California "Grand Cru" vineyard, as a recognition of the locations that produce the highest-quality wine grapes. Dominant soil types are gravely to sandy loam with silty and clay loam types.
