Hermann Eidenbenz (1903-1993)
Born 4 September 1902 in Cannanore, India, of Swiss parents. Studied at the Zürich Kunstgewerbeschule while and trained with the Zurich printers Orell Füssli. In 1923 he moved to Berlin and worked for a design studio. Beginning of 1926 he taught lettering and graphic design at the Magdeburg Kunst- und Handwerkerschule. In 1932 he returned to Switzerland and worked on Swiss Pavilion for Paris International Exhibition. He taught in Basle, Switzerland and in Braunschweig, Germany, became art director and consultant for the Reemtsma Company, Hamburg. Amongst a prolific body of work he designed posters for Swissair as well as various typefaces: Graphique, Clarendon, Bold Clarendon and banknotes for both Germany and Switzerland.
