Description
From an Original Color Painting
This painting is one of a series Van Gogh created featuring the Butte Montmartre while living in Paris with his brother Theo. At the time, Montmartre was still partly rural, dotted with market gardens and surviving windmills, which Van Gogh hoped would be a popular subject for his art. The non-functional Moulin de Blute-Fin mill had become a tourist attraction with an observation tower, which is the structure depicted in the painting.
